ULTIMATE VOCABULARY SOFTWARE REVIEW

eReflect’s Ultimate Vocabulary software seems to be the most popular vocabulary program available but is it really that good and does it effectively increase vocabulary? We decided to take the program for a spin and see if it’s all what it’s made out to be.

INTERFACE

They say first impressions are important, and if that’s true, Ultimate Vocabulary has that aspect covered. The software has a pleasing interface that is easy on the eyes. The GUI is, at once, stylish, professional and simple. If you have used Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010, you will be glad to see Ultimate Vocabulary is designed along the same aesthetics and intuitiveness. All of the programs features are easily accessible and the whole thing manages not to overwhelm you while still packing in lots of options and tools.

VOCABULARY DATABASE

Considering its competitors, Power Vocabulary and Word Smart, only boast a couple of thousand words, Ultimate Vocabulary software’s 140,000 word strong words database is quite impressive. The program can double as your dictionary even while it gives you great ways to choose, interact with and learn new words. All the words are accompanied by clear definitions and multiple word-usages examples as well as other details (we appreciate having visuals to go along with the words- makes learning new words so much more easier!)

LEARNING TECHNIQUES

This is the area where Ultimate Vocabulary really shines. Through 10 effective vocabulary learning levels as well as several exercises and games, you have a variety of options to choose from for learning new words. Alongside the extensive word usages examples and helpful visuals, you can also get the etymology for every word as well as benefit from specialized word lists such as ‘power words’ and even your very own custom-made lists. Exercises and games include basic vocabulary techniques such as flash cards (which are customizable here!) and MCQs to the highly useful Synonym Memory and Antonym Memory.

OUR FAVORITE FEATURE

The ‘Word Messenger’ feature in the program has to be one of the most useful and nicest features in the software. Every now and then a little notification pops up from the corner of your screen which alerts you about new words as well as your ‘to-do’. This ensures that you pick up new words even when you are working on something else on your computer.

With a price tag of only $67, we have to say that Ultimate Vocabulary software is a must for everyone who’s serious about building their vocabulary. The only downside seems to be that Mac users can’t yet benefit from the program as it is sold exclusively for Windows. And we hope that changes in the future. Till then, Windows users can get a head start on the benefits from this great little program!
