HOW TO BUILD VOCABULARY THE EASY WAY

Don't the people who use big words sound really impressive? That's because, in our minds, a good vocabulary is directly related, and rightly so, to an excellent academic background, 6-digit job and a high level of intellect. Whether you have all these assets or not, there is no reason why you shouldn't have an impressive speech. After all, all it should take to know more words is to learn more words, right? While that doesn't sound too daunting in theory, you have to consider we are talking about learning thousands of new words here- so the process CAN get a tiny bit difficult. 1. MEET YOUR FAVORITE NEW HOBBY: READING

The easiest and most pleasurable way to learn vocabulary is to pick up the habit of reading. Before you think we are trying to turn you into a bookworm, consider the thousands of words you will learn while still having fun- yes, reading is a very enjoyable pastime once you get into it. Start with a genre of your choice (such as romance) and get some books of good repute (such as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice) and start reading. You'll soon discover the joys of this hobby that have captivated millions since the start of this world. Reading will slowly but surely increase not only your vocabulary significantly but also make you a much more cultured and knowledgeable person.

2. BECOME FRIENDS WITH THE DICTIONARY

The dictionary can act as your secondary vocabulary database. Whenever you come across a new word, whether from the mouths of friends or colleagues or the pages of the novel you are reading, looking it up in the dictionary will not only make you understand stuff better but also build vocabulary. Buying a pocket dictionary that you can carry with you is a good idea. That way you can learn words on the go. You could prop it open and learn random new words as you wait for your train or a friend.

3. MAKE USE OF TECHNOLOGY

There are some really effective, fun and great tools for learning vocabulary. You can find thousands on the web as well as in vocabulary learning courses.
