A GOOD VOCABULARY: IS IT REALLY THAT IMPORTANT?

You probably hear a lot about ‘vocabulary building’ and ‘word power’ these days. So you might be wondering ‘what all this fuss is about anyway?!’ After all, we can all speak English and are able to communicate with our friends and colleagues just fine- so why bother with learning new words? However, the fact is that while their current knowledge of words might work for some people, if you really want to succeed in today’s cutthroat scenario, a good vocabulary is not just essential- it’s a pre-requisite. EXPRESS YOURSELF CORRECTLY

Now there is one thing people should definitely know about vocabulary- it is only as good as it is appropriate for what you use it for. If you are a children books author, you will do well to avoid using words like ‘quotidian’ or ‘arachnophobia’. The same holds true for articles written for the masses to easily understand. But if you wanted to write an impressive business proposal or a high-level literary piece, you would want to use vocabulary that displays not only your command of the language, education-level and eruditeness but also your skill at effectively expressing your thoughts.
